- SYNOPSIS -
She’s hiding from her past. He’s the only exception. She’ll get one chance to clear her name… and he’ll try to win her heart.

Rosie’s hometown return is a far cry from triumphant. Broke and on the run from her drug-dealing ex, she’s determined to hide out and save up for a one-way ticket out. But an encounter with a guy she once knew in high school, a guy who is now a cop, just might change everything.

Blaine never thought he’d see the girl who saved his life in high school again, but when he pulls over a speeding car and sees who’s behind the wheel, he recognizes the shattered woman immediately. Rosie Sweet is back in Aspen Falls and now the tables are turned. She needs his help. Desperately.

All Blaine wants is a chance to thank the woman who rescued him, and see if the real Rosie lives up to the woman he’s dreamed about over the years. But Rosie knows her time in Aspen Falls is temporary. It has to be, because her past is catching up with her...and it will have deadly consequences. If Blaine finds out the secrets she’s keeping, he could ruin her. Or could he be the one man to ultimately save her?

Dead of Winter is the first standalone book in a spine-tingling series of romantic suspense novels.
If you like small town mysteries, heart-wrenching romance, and gripping tension, then you’ll love Melissa Pearl and Anna Cruise’s white-knuckle thrill ride.

My Thoughts: Sometimes It’s Best To Return Home.
The first installment of the Aspen Falls novels by authors Melissa Pearl and Anna Cruise, was absolutely wonderful! This novel had it all - action, suspense, mystery, and sweet romance. This writing duo has two more novels planned for Aspen Falls that are sure to be just as exciting and I can’t wait to read them.
Waking with the mother of all hangovers the last thing Rosie Sweet imagined was being served a search warrant by officers. Things for Rosie only went from bad to worse as events unfolded leading her to flee from her ex-boyfriend Damien. Rosie friends herself running to the only place left that she promised never to return to, her home town of Aspen Falls. It’s there that she finds herself pulled over by an officer who show her kindness and directs her to the one person in the town she always thought of as a grandmother. That officer turns out to be Blaine Hartford, he was once the class loner who was bullied but now is the town hottie. Blaine can’t believe his high school crush is back in town, but it’s obvious something is wrong and he can’t help but want to help Rosie if only she’d open up before it’s too late.
Overall, loved it! Small town life and romance meets big issues and regrets. I’m so happy for the ending it’s was just too precious especially after the big scene at the end that had me on pins and needles, Phew! that was a close one. Rosie was definitely the character I connected the most with, life can just suck when things aren’t what you expect and other people seem to have it all together. So when she returned to Aspen Falls and found not shame but home and a new start, it beautiful. Ugh and Blaine hot stuff right there, doing what he can to protect his town and woman. So if you love stories where the girl rises above her troubles and gets a great man and home in process, then this book will be a great read to start a series.

EXCERPT
Chapter 14: (Tuesday, February 20th 9:45pm)
With her breath on hold, Rosie pushed her door open.
      “You take care, sweet Rose.”
She glanced back at Blaine’s smile and grinned. “Thanks for saving me tonight.”
“Always. I owe you, right?” He winked but she countered his playful expression with words she meant from the bottom of her buried heart.
“You’ll never owe me anything, Blaine Hartford. I did the world a huge favor that day.”
They stared at each other. It was a look deep with meaning and it made getting out of his car that much harder. But Rosie forced herself to blink and jump out. Shutting the door, she reminded herself that Blaine had a good life. He didn’t need her coming in and screwing everything up.
She walked carefully across the icy concrete, remembering her fall from earlier. Her bruised knee still ached. Blaine’s headlights guided her way and she stopped at the door and waved goodbye, forcing a smile as he drove off.
She couldn’t figure out whether she wanted to smile at his kind words or cry at the fact that she’d never be worthy of a guy like Blaine.
He’d changed so much since that day by the waterfall…and he held her responsible.
      He shouldn’t.
She didn’t deserve that kind of accolade.
While she’d been falling into disrepair, Blaine had been building himself up, working his ass off to become a man that any girl would be lucky to have.
Pulling the door open, she gazed up at the stairwell, the fear from earlier rising over her again. She’d meant to run from this place. Just because Blaine had made her forget for a moment didn’t mean Chester and Damien wouldn’t still find her in Aspen Falls.
Looking over her shoulder, she stared into the bleak parking lot and had to face the fact there was nothing she could do right then. She needed to get upstairs, get warm and go to sleep.
Maybe in the morning her head would be clear enough to think up a new escape plan.

~ Author's Information ~

Melissa Pearl

Melissa Pearl was born in Auckland, New Zealand, but has spent much of her life abroad, living in countries such as Jordan, Cyprus and Pakistan... not to mention a nine month road trip around North America with her husband. "Best. Year. Ever!!" She is a trained elementary teacher, but writing is her passion. Since becoming a full time mother she has had the opportunity to pursue this dream and her debut novel hit the internet in November 2011. Since then she has continued to produce a steady stream of books, ranging in genres from Fantasy to Romantic Suspense to Contemporary Romance. She loves the variety and is excited about the books she has coming out in 2016.

"I am passionate about writing. It stirs a fire in my soul that I never knew I had. I want to be the best writer I can possibly be and transport my readers into another world where they can laugh, cry and fall in love."

Anna Cruise

Anna Cruise has been drooling over boys since middle school...and writing about them, too. She hates cliffhangers, is a sucker for nice guys finishing first and revels in happy endings--and not just in books.

Anna grew up on the beaches of San Diego but currently resides in Minneapolis. Most of her writing is done in the winter, since she is pretty sure she's allergic to sub-zero temperatures and tends to hibernate until it's sunny and in the seventies. Her office is her couch and her colleagues are her kids and her sloth-like cats.

With ten books under her belt--and more on the way--she really wishes she'd taken keyboarding in high school. Typing with only three fingers is not terribly efficient.
