Hey, It's A Release Blog Tour for "Inimical" by Genevieve Iseult Eldredge

Book 3, in The Circuit Fae Series
"Inimical"
Genre: Young Adult, Urban Fantasy, LGBTQ+. 350 pages.
Price: $5.38 ebook (at time of post)

- SYNOPSIS -
Being a fairy princess isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, especially when you have to choose between saving your people…And killing your girlfriend. Oh, and let’s not forget having to pass summer school, too.
Talk about a hot mess.
First, there’s Rouen, princess of the dark Fae, goth-rock star Euphoria, and soon-to-be senior at Richmond Elite High. Her world is all things ice, snow, and death. And that death will include her own people unless she can defeat her evil father in a Battle of Wits and War and seize the throne. Trouble is, taking the throne is a death sentence for the princess of the fair Fae. In other words, a quick death for Syl, Rouen’s girlfriend.
And that’s so not good.
Second, there’s Syl, princess of the fair Fae, geek girl mathlete, and also an incoming senior. Things aren’t any easier for her. Syl must save her people by battling her old nemesis, the fair Fae prince, and the same rules apply: taking the throne means a death sentence for the other court’s princess, Rouen.
Even worse, Syl and Rouen’s enemies have figured out they’re a couple. Now, both Rouen’s father and Syl’s archenemy are teaming up to ensure neither of them makes it till Midsummer’s Day never mind to the fall semester.
Looks like passing summer school is the least of their worries.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Rating:  ðŸ“”📔📔📔📖
My Thoughts: Dark vs. Fair Fae
     **FYI read book “Dethroned” 2.5 or you’ll feel a tad lost.**
        I was excited and waiting for this 3rd installment of this series because Syl and Rouen are finally together! BUT with their circumstances heir is always a catch and ALWAYS someone, something, some rule keeping them from complete happiness. This book is certainly filled wonderful highs, angst, laughter and pain with a cliffhanger that will leave you freaking out just a bit.
       Having to take make up courses Richmond Elite High to help them finish off their junior, Rouen and Syl, in a normal world should only have to worry about going on dates, finishing homework assignments, and making it to class on time. However neither of them are ordinary girls, Syl is the last Fair Princess and Rouen is the princess of the dark Fae, as well as the goth-rock star Euphoria. Their chance at love is threaten by the constant pull from their realms, both of which are dying and want each princess to kill the other in order to ascend. All must be decided by Midsummer’s Day where Fair or Dark will converge, but only one may survive.
        Overall, great 3rd book in the series, but sad some events feel on repeat. Poor Syl and Rouen are girls that have proven themselves time and again but they can’t catch a break. After the last book I was hoping for more happy moments in this novel, but they basically get put in a scenario of kill her or let everyone die kinda of place . . . again. Now I will say I am happy to see that Syl and Rouen are both growing character development-wise, Rouen is allowing herself to feel and show emotions and Syl is learning to be strong and confident in herself. Both young women are definitely heroines on an epic level even if fictional they are inspirational. Okay last thing, that cliffhanger ending, not spoiling anything, but Oooooo book 4 gonna be cray-cray! So if you’ve been into this series from the beginning read on it’s gonna get real complicated now.
EXCERPTS
Alinthia
“It will be enough when I tell you it’s enough, Alinthia,” Director Tanner says, spearheading the posse who shoot disparaging looks in my direction.
Screw them.
I’m done with this.
I don’t want to kill anyone else, so I lie. “I was trying to be discreet, Director Tanner,” I add, gracing him with a fake smile. “Using my powers like this drains me, and I’m close to my limit. I’d rather not risk it. Unless you don’t care if one of them gains the upper hand and ends me?” I challenge.
“You have been training for hours upon hours every day, and I’ve witnessed no such thing.”
“This is completely different. Torching a living, breathing being is not the same as lasering a piece of stone!”
A rotund man with a protruding belly whispers in the director’s ear. “Very well, Alinthia. One more assailant, and we’ll call it a day.” The director talks into an earpiece, whispering instructions, and I spin around, a sense of relief washing over me.
But it’s premature.
A whirring sound above my head captures my attention, and I tilt my head back, looking up. A large metal weapon of some sort has appeared through a hole in the roof and all sense of relief evaporates. “Stay up here with us, Alinthia,” the director instructs, only confirming my suspicions.
On the ground, a short man with silver dreadlocks spits abuse at me in a foreign tongue while he paces the ground, shaking his fists. I watch in horror as a beam of red light shoots from the weapon, capturing the man in a hazy bubble. He’s instantly frozen and mute and completely unmoving under the red haze. The bubble elevates off the ground a few feet, twisting from side to side, with the immobile male trapped inside.
“Allow us to demonstrate our latest weapon,” Director Tanner tells his captive audience. They all inch forward, eager to watch more death and destruction. My stomach sinks, and I bite my tongue to keep from ripping them a new one.
A piercing sound reverberates off the walls, and the red beam from the weapon pulsates, growing thicker as it penetrates the bubble, eliminating the male in a second. Tiny particles of matter float through the air, and that’s all that’s left of him. I feel sick to the pit of my stomach.
Holy shit. What kind of technology has Zorc shared with the government, and what other kind of weapons do they have? The fact the humans have this kind of tech does not instill a warm and cozy feeling.
A loud round of applause sickens me. I want to turn around and berate them, but what’s the point? The humans have already proven they have little regard for other lifeforms. Unless we can offer them something, we are expendable.
Book 2, in A Paper Stars Novel
"Hiro Loves Kite"
Genre: Young Adult, Historical.
Price: $4.99 ebook (at time of post)
Book Links: Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo
- SYNOPSIS -
We offer our wounds and scars. Understanding that’s part of what makes us beautiful.
Nora finally has her beloved sister Frankie back but that’s just the beginning of their struggles. She must now become Kite. A stronger, more independent version of herself. A King. A guardian.
And Kettle has Kite’s heart. She gives it freely. But as he holds it, dear and close like a lost treasure, something holds him back: A feeling that he doesn’t deserve good things. A looming shadow that threatens to separate them. Kettle must accept that he is also Hiro: A Japanese American with every right to happiness and freedom.
Because Hiro loves Kite. And Kite won’t wait forever for him to tell her.
But they’re standing on icy ground. As the leverage they had on Kite’s abusive father wavers and life on the street affects Frankie’s health, the challenges threaten to break their bond.
Snow is gathering at the station doors and doubts are piling high. They must rely on each other. Believe in the magic that got them this far. If they don’t, it’s not just their future in jeopardy but the fates of all the street kids in their care. All the Kings.
EXCERPT
Frankie Comes Home…
Paying for a hot dog in pennies and dimes is embarrassing. Being two pennies short and having the hot dog stand guy take pity on us was completely humiliating. We’re skinny. I just hope the Kings haven’t eaten everything we had stored away.
Without Kin and Keeps, there’s been a little more to go around. My shoulders sag. Now there are more mouths to feed. My fingers scrape the insides of my pockets, searching for a coin that maybe got snagged in the seams. If I turn them inside out, I really will look like a street urchin. I’m the pirate who opens the treasure chest, finds he’s been beat, and opens it again just to rub it in. I snort.
We wait for a large crowd to head for the subway and melt in. Frankie’s eyes are as wide as a sliced moon as we weave and duck. Eyes on each other, hands gripped tightly.
Kite pushes Frankie’s head under the turnstile as I pay with our last coin. She presses her back into me. The smell of faint perfume, the last of her old life, and salt, the new, coming from her hair. As I reach around her to push the stile, a two for one, her breath catches. I let my hand rest on her waist for a second. Let myself imagine we’re a couple on our way home from a shopping trip, and then it falls like so many un-granted wishes into a fountain.
Leaning close to her ear so she can hear me, I hold my breath, thinking inhaling any more of her sweetness may actually kill me. “Ready?”
She nods. Her cheek brushing my lips.
We take our route to the secret door. To the home we now share like kids playing house, only far too real.
Frankie, to her credit, rolls with the punches. Punch one: Hot dogs instead of roast beef and gravy for dinner. Punch Two: Cheating our way through the subway. Punch Three… I knock on the King’s door, and Krow answers. He looks us up and down, slick and distrustful for a moment, then breaks into a grin. “Kettle! Kite!” he shouts. “Kettle and Kite are home.” He stares at my hands. When he sees there’s no food—only a suitcase—he quickly looks away. But there’s no hiding his disappointment.
Frankie squeezes her way through the doorway into the vast, abandoned subway tunnel. My home. My refuge. And now hers. Blinking, she stands on her tiptoes. Lip in teeth. “Holy hell!” she shouts, and several Kings look her way.
Kite flushes pink, then taps her sister’s shoulder. “Frankie!” she chastises. “Language.”
We step inside, and Frankie swings her head from side to side. “I mean tank you, holy hell.”
We both chuckle, eyes connecting over the top of her head.
Punch three: “This is where we’re going to be staying for a while,” Kite’s voice chases after a galloping Frankie as she jumps from bed to bed. She is the spokes of a traveling star. She is the light you can’t catch.
Frankie doesn’t hear her, and Kite runs to catch her sister. I drag the case inside, plonk it on Kin’s bed. Now Kite’s to share with her sister.
Finally, Frankie stops running and presses a palm to her chest as she wheezes. Kite rushes to her, and she puts both hands on her sister’s shoulders. “Are you okay?”
Punch four is for me, and I feel it sock me right in the guts. As I watch them, I know. Like really know that I would do anything to help them. They are instantly and permanently part of this family. And it scares me.
I got up and went to the bed, yanking down the blankets in one move.
“What are you doing?” She was cautious.
“In you go.” I pointed.
“I’ll walk you out.” She glanced between me and the door.
I laughed. “Subtle. I’m not leaving.”
“Well, you aren’t sleeping with me!” She planted her fisted hands on her hips.
I tried real hard not to smile. “Wouldn’t dream of it.”
A little bit of hurt flashed in her eyes, and I was a bastard because I was glad for it. I wanted her to want me—even just a fraction of the way I wanted her.
I cleared my throat and added, “At least not tonight.”
Her eyes whipped up to mine.
This time I smiled, letting some of the desire and possessiveness I felt shine through.
She ran for the bed and jumped in, pulling the covers nearly over her head. “You can see yourself out!”
I threw my head back and laughed.
Then I returned to my chair.
Making a noise, Bellamy sat up, pushing down some of the covers to glare. “What are you doing?”
“Staying ‘til you fall asleep.”
Her mouth opened. Closed. Opened again. “But why?”
“Because you want me to.”
“You’re ridiculous.”
“You didn’t disagree.”
She fell back on the bed with a groan.
I grinned and settled my hands over my middle. “Go to sleep, Bells. I’ll watch over you.”
Chapter 1:(Syl)
Can you see them—the fair ones, the dark ones?
Lurking just beyond the edge of light
They are there, waiting for you
Waiting, waiting for you to Awaken
- Glamma’s Grimm
      If dreams are supposed to be prophetic, then I must be destined to be a track star. I’m always running in this dream, running through the wet city streets after the crash. My leg is bleeding, a piece of iron shrapnel sticking out, glinting in the streetlights. The shadows warp. There are…things chasing me. Dark and terrible things.
      And among them, her
      I’ve never seen her face, only a flash of sapphire-blue eyes ringed in gold. She’s not human—because, of course she’s not. Goodness knows, I can’t have normal dreams—but I’m drawn to her, the deepest part of what makes me me tugged and stretched and pulled inside out until I’m aching.
      Until my heart is an arrow pointing straight at her.
      Also, she’s chasing me, but also she’s helping me escape.       Also also? I think I’m totally crushing on her. And her on me.
      How can I tell? Because dreams are officially dumb. Apparently, so am I, because for the first time ever in my dream, I stop running. I turn, waiting for her to come out of the night, my huntress, my savior. Her shadow moves in the darkness, closer, closer…
       I’m just about to glimpse her—
       Clink! Clank! I jolt awake to the clatter of dishes ten minutes before my alarm. Ugh. I was so close. Not to mention, today is not the day I want to wake up early.
       I roll over, tucking the covers up over my head. It doesn’t help. Clank! Clatter!
       Mondays are Mom’s day off—Mondays and Saturdays. Saturdays. The rest of the week, she’s up before the street sweepers and gone hours before I even think of rolling out of bed. She’s a business of one, cleaning the schools before anyone is even in them. I guess it’s good she’s a morning person.
        Right now, I wish I were. Because I’m so not.
        I lie there in my makeshift blanket fort, straining to get back to my dream, to where I was just about to see…her.
        But nope.
        In trying to be quiet, Mom’s louder than ever. Every clink and chink is followed by an “oops” or sigh or the frenzied sounds of someone trying to quiet their actions while somehow managing to make even more noise. I love my mom, but of all days—
         Clank! Claaaaaaaaaank!
         Seriously? I shove my beat-up e-reader off the bed and stuff my pillow over my head. I’m regretting my poor life choices in staying up till one a.m. to finish “just one more chapter.” Maybe that’s why I’m having crazy dreams. Too much Irish folklore. I’ve been obsessed ever since Ms Duffy assigned that “personal heritage” project freshman year. Whatever. That e-reader’s been my best friend this entire summer.
         Ever since Fiann started ditching me. Right after the accident.
         I was dead for like two minutes, or so the doctors say.
         Fiann was supposed to be my best friend, but hers was the only face that seemed unhappy when I awoke, when I recovered, when I came back to school for the last few weeks before summer break…
         We’re not friends anymore. Not really.
          Our “break up” has been brewing for a while now. Ever since midway through my freshman year. My dad’s checks stopped coming, which meant less money, which meant fewer extracurriculars. Which meant…I couldn’t keep up with Fiann and the rest of my friends.
          She started treating me different right away—ignoring me, excluding me, ditching me…
          The night of the crash was the final nail in the coffin of our friendship.
          All summer, I’ve been a regular hermit. A pariah.
          “Syl!” Mom’s voice echoes down the hall of our shotgun apartment.
           Gah! “Just ten more minutes.” I am so not a morning person. Even the idea of opening my eyes is painful.
           My alarm goes off. It’s clearly a conspiracy. I give up on sleep, on my dream, on seeing her. “Fine! I’m up.”
           “You don’t want to be late,” Mom calls from the kitchen like some cheerfully disembodied Jiminy Cricket. “Not on your first day as a sophomore.”
           Don’t I? Dreams are scary and all, but it’s reality I’ve been dreading. The idea of having to face Fiann and all the girls who I’d thought were my friends sucks the life out of me. Big-time. That, along with having to explain how I—we, Fiann and me—survived a train wreck. Now she’s a local hero, and I’m just the weird “girl who lived.”
            It sounds all Harry Potter cool, but it’s not. Not by a long shot.
            Aside from my weird dreams, I don’t even remember anything about that night. It’s all a blare of blinding white—heat and burning flame.
            Apparently, Fiann dragged me from the train, a huge spike of iron shrapnel sticking out of my leg. She saved my life, and now she won’t even talk to me? It doesn't make any sense. I heave a sigh. When you're going through hell, just keep going. That's what my Glamma Always says.
            Said, I remind myself.
