 Description:
This kind of business can only be personal. . .

Sage Reese lives for her job. More precisely, she lives for her debonair boss, Parker Andersen. Sage handles everything for Parker, even as she fantasizes about the one thing that isn't in her job description: him. But when a high-stakes account crosses the line from shady to deadly, a tough cop starts giving Sage the attention she wishes Parker would . . .

Detective Dean Ryker couldn't be more different from Parker. While Parker wears expensive suits like a second skin and drives a BMW, Ryker's uniform is leather jackets and jeans . . . and his ride of choice is a Harley. While Parker's sexiness is a reserved, slow burn, Ryker is completely upfront about what-and who-he's after. And Sage tops his list.

Now, as Ryker digs deeper into the dark side of Parker's business, Sage finds herself caught between two men: the one she's always wanted-and the one who makes her feel wanted like never before . . .

My Thoughts: Stubborn Headed Female Lead, But A Great N.A. Story In The End

With the opening prologue I wasn't sure where this story would lead, but by the end the author took her main character on a long journey to find herself and truly heal. This story has a very unique plot and characters that are endearing making a reader ache for a HEA even when you can foresee things going awry. If only a certain character would do a simple action by letting go of the past and not letting another actions define them, ugh aggravating yet still a great read.
Never imagining she would be noticed by a boy as popular or rich as Ashton Stirling, Clementine "Emmie" Hayes falls into a relationship with him and quickly loses herself. Deciding to finally leave the physical and emotional abuse to pursue a life on her own; Emmie lets Ashton know that it's really over despite his overly dramatic plea to stay she walks away. That moment of freedom is short lived when Emmie hears a gun shot. It takes three years for her to move on and move out, towards the life she had intended by pursing her art degree in New York. It's there Emmie meets Paige a model who becomes her new best friend and roommate. It's through Paige that she meets the Bennett brothers. Paige is dating the younger brother Christian, but it's Colin the older brother that is causing Emmie to feel butterflies. Emmie had no plans for any man in her life just school, but Colin is just too hot and charming. Despite knowing he has a past with many woman, Emmie is only hesitant to entertain a relationship with him, because she still feels guilty about Ashton and is afraid those who love her always get hurt. Ashton however is not so easily put off. Emmie is then left with a hard choice of letting go of her past or having to let go of a future with Colin.
Overall, great story, at first I was a bit put off by how long Emmie held on to the guilt she had over Ashton's death, but the author wrote out the conclusion to make it all worth while in the end. Emmie is lost and full of guilt, so trying to move on without having those issue taken care of seemed absurd for most of the book, until she sought closure that's when Emmie became real. I then loved how the author chose to drag that out till the end of the plot rather then the middle, because it made sense and less fictional. Still my favorite fact about the book is the characters and their interactions, Emmie and Paige are hilarious together. The dialogue in this book is fun and witty. Oh and Colin is such a sweet heart, Sheesh! If only all hotties were that sensitive, rich and hard working. So basically if you want a great read with fun dialogue only one sex scene and some language, that's main message is about letting go of your past and not letting others actions define you or make you into something you don't want to be, than this book is a great free read. I'm totally grabbing the next book in the series to see how Paige and Christian workout.

My Thoughts: Slightly Disturbing But Super Enthralling

This story is just a big ol' mess of yikes that you can't stop reading! Tara Brown is the only author who makes me want the seriously bad guy to win the heart of the girl whom he's basically mind-f'in and emotionally screwing up. You'll either finish this book completely addicted or a bit confused, okay more likely bit of both, but that's because this story is unlike anything I've ever read and so are the characters.
Upon the news of her husband's death, Evie Evans finds herself a thirty-eight year old widow with a ten year old son and a five year old daughter. Evie has no tears of love to shed for her late husband James, whose infidelities caused her eyes to open to how much her life had changed over the past ten years of marriage. She loves her kids but realized her job as a mom is all she was now. A lawyer comes and delivers news that James was a rogue spy who dealt with an arms dealer who now owns Evie and all that she has including herself until James debt is paid. Evie is quickly thrown back into her old life of Counter Intelligence, being handled by a young hotshot named Cooper and his team, Luce and Jack. Coop is harsh on Evie putting it plain that she isn't equipped to handle a man like Gustavo Servario. Evie goes begrudgingly to Servario out of fear for herself and family, meeting a man who is unlike any she has known before to try and garner info from him. Servario is the proverbial "bad guy" but he says and does stuff to Evie that makes her think he might just like her and isn't using her as a plaything, despite the dirty things they do together. When events unfold and plans with secrets are discovered concerning a top secret project called Burrow, is somehow linked to Evie; Armed with her CI crew and Servario, Evie knows she must tie up loose ends if she ever hopes to have a chance at a normal life.
Overall, I really love this book and I almost can't explain why. Evie is literally spiraling into an abyss of angry depression concerning her dead cheating husband. Then when she's called back into serve her country and finds out she was basically bartered to Servario by her superiors, she gets mad and decides to take control instead of being controlled. Evie at her best is nuts the girl can't figure out if she wants to just go full spy lady or back to momma full time, with Servario she sees she's worth something. I think that maybe why I'm strangely rooting for Servario and Evie, though their relationship is probably toxic, it's still based on something of real feelings, at least I believe Servario's are real. Evie is lost emotionally and basically has out dated knowledge for most of the story, so as a reader you follow her as she gets back into the life of a spy and see her crack a few secrets all while she muddles through her emotions. If it sounds intriguing, grab the book, and try to understand Evie's mess.

Note: I was not to fond of the book myself, but if you're into the dominating alpha male, lust to love, and lots of sex type of book you can grab the book at a sale price right now. Many readers love the book, I seem to be one in the minority who didn't. However I may feel about the book, I found the author to be a great person, so I see no issue in giving people the right to choose this book if this is their desired genre to read.

"Wed's Wonderings & Wanderings": June Gloom, Graduation, Memories and Overall Nostalgia

June is a unique time for California, residents find we really enter the summer months and starting hitting the hotter temperatures. There is of course the June gloom too, which starts off in the morning and burns away by noon. If you've never experienced the gloom, don't worry its nothing special, just a light fog, but it obscures our precious sun making us wonder: should we bundle up? And must we wear shoes instead of flip-flops?

I jest of course, but seriously though, June is the time when the schools get out and graduations commence. This past Thursday my baby brother graduated from high school, I couldn't even cry this time like I did for my little sister, because I was just so proud of him. He was such a pain trying to get him to do his school work, but in the end he finished Cum Laude and won various department awards. The fact that he was the last to graduate from the same high school as my sister & I only made the ceremony all the more special for our family.

Then there was Father's day on Sunday, who doesn't love to celebrate their father or father figure in their life. I love my papa, he is seriously the most selfless, loving, and understanding man on the planet and I could never hope to have a better dad. Sadly Father's day for my family on my dad's side will always be a bit hard to celebrate, since my cousin passed away two years ago this past Thursday from a 5 year on and off again battle with cancer. His passing was(is) still hard for my family as it was around Father's Day, so my beloved grandpa, who was basically his father, takes my cousins passing very hard this time of year.  We all try extra hard to keep everyone happy around this week, especially my grandpa. And what better way to occupy ones mind than to enjoy America's favorite past time, baseball.
So off we went to spend a hot afternoon amidst a full crowd in the glorious old stadium in L.A. cheering on the Dodgers. My family ate delicious sandwiches from our favorite family deli, drank ice cold lemonade and soda, had some good old peanuts and witnessed a loss . . . again. I swear I never see a win but at least this time I got to watch two home runs back to back and had my family laughing at the fact I may be a jinx. I'm still holding on to the claim that I'm not a jinx, buuut thus far the record is not in my favor.

Either way this past week has reminded me to make every moment count and enjoy my time spent with family. I miss my cousin and I know that he would have enjoyed watching the game with all of us. So us going out and having fun with him on our minds makes him live on and not forgotten, because he will always be a part of our lives in some ways, even though he is no longer with us. All that to say June may be a bit gloomy at times but then sun will still come out to shine; And when it does you'd better go out hit the beach, park, lake anywhere you can to make memories with friends and family, because that's what truly matters in life.

The pictures I stumbled upon haunt me still, the secret I shoulder is heavy.

I won’t ever tell. She can’t ever know.

When I look in the mirror my reflection is of who I’m afraid I’ll become and not the man I am.

It makes me feel like a poser, no better than all the others pretending to be exactly who they aren’t.

How does a man keep it together when everything is unraveling right here in his hands?

I didn’t start any of this.

I never asked for it.

But it came knocking at my door.

When secrets and threats knock, I don’t hide.

I open the door. Because the best way to take down a poser is to be one.

My Thoughts: When Witches Come Out Of The Closet

Looking for a mystical fast paced story featuring a modern world where witches live secretly amongst normals casting spells and influence the humanity. This would be a good book to try. Filled with a quick paced plot and action packed scenes, the reader is shown a world of mystery as witches come out to "play" and some exceptional cops try to help save the day.
Wes Rockville, comes from a family of highly regarded law enforcement agents. So when he fails at a simple assignment, his dad gives him one last chance. Never did Wes imagine his transfer would be to secret 232 year old government organization named The Witches Protection Program. Thinking the program is a joke he is introduced to the good witches by his new partner Alastair Verne, and told their mission is to secretly help and protect them. Wes is quickly thrown into a complex case that leaves them uncovering a plot involving a cosmetic company and the heiress Morgan Pendragon, who is a practicing witch her self and is the linchpin to her aunt's evil scheme.
Overall, I enjoyed the story. At times the plot was too rushed for me and I'd get lost in the moment needing to reread parts. I'm all for fast paced reads but too fast and the story loses its luster. Also the perspectives would change from chapter to chapter but would change even in the middle of the moment at times and would leave me a tad lost as to what character was I following now. However, I found he idea that witches need protectors is new but not unlikely. It's more like the author illustrates they need guardians, because they may have power but power can be over powering. Checks and balances. I'd probably read the sequel if one is put out, especially if Morgan and Wes team up. Either way if you're looking for a world where witches live among mere humans practicing magic in two warring factions, one good one bad, with a secret government force trying to protect the good, then this is a book to try out.
