- SYNOPSIS -
Princess Raya of Paruth lived alone on a deserted island in a towering lighthouse, forgotten by time. With only a loyal albatross as a friend, she had little hope or joy in her life until he washed up on her shore in the middle of a raging winter storm.

Prince Trevor of Galder left his father and kingdom behind to travel north in search of a wife. It was time to settle down and forget Ella Carina, the woman who chose to love a peasant and follow her heart instead of choosing Trevor and fulfilling her duty to her people. He didn’t heed the warnings about the North Sea in winter, and his ship, crew, and captain paid the price.

Raya and Trevor must work together to find a way off the island, or risk being trapped there for the rest of their lives. But sometimes the simplest lessons are the hardest, and each will have to learn that the only thing that can truly set you free is love.

- SYNOPSIS -
Captain James
Peter may as well be imprisoned on Neverland with us for he consumes Miss Bell’s thoughts, stealing her away from me. His retaliation is a constant threat of which we cannot escape. Even so, that pathetic excuse of a man is the least of my worries.

Corrupt and vile creatures rule this tiny spit of land, brought here by fairies, by Miss Bell.
Whether she admits it or not, she needs my protection. Yet, I catch her glancing at my severed arm with pity in her eyes. She thinks of me as weak, injured, and any number of inadequacies. Feck. I will not stand for it! I will protect her even if it costs me my life.
- - -
Miss Bell
Captain James makes no attempt to shield the darkness harbored in his eyes, like he wants me—needs me—to see what most people do.
Ruthlessness.
Turmoil.
Devastation.
“Remember that the same hand I use to caress your delicate skin has been stained with the blood of my enemies,” he says, cupping my cheek. “Do not assume my affection for you is something others have experienced. Understood, Miss Bell?”

I understand.

Hell, I am counting on it.

Peter would rather see me dead than in the arms of another, and I have no intention of dying—especially not when Captain James makes me feel so alive.

I demanded, “Who are you?”
Her raspy voice dripped with hunger as she looked at me like I was her next victim. “You don’t remember me?”
That wasn’t a Goddamn answer. I didn’t trust her, not for one godforsaken second.
“Sod off,” I sneered.
She slowly shook her head, back and forth, holding my gaze. “No, Captain Hook.”
The way she said my fecking name ignited a fury buried deep inside my soul. I wrenched her arm, tearing her off me and throwing her into the crashing waves.
Water dripped down her face, spilling onto her neck when she stood. The water pulled her clothing, encasing it tight to her lithe body. My knuckles cracked as I forced myself to carry the intense weight of her gaze rather than her succulent figure.
“You are a temptress,” I acknowledged.
A smile touched her face. “So I’ve been told.” Without batting an eye, she inched closer like I was her prey, not the other way around.
My finger itched for my sword. I promised myself I could end this creature’s life if she took one more step. “What are you?”
She exhaled slowly, measuring my every move with that brash stare. Finally, she licked her bottom lip and then whispered, “I am your curse.”

Hey, It's A Release Blitz for "Rise of the Sea Witch" by Stacey Rourke

Title: Rise of the Sea Witch
Series: Unfortunate Soul Chronicles #1
Author: Stacey Rourke
Genre: YA fairy tale retelling
Release Date: June 19, 2017
Details of the sea witch’s banishment have been exaggerated. The body count that preempted it was not. Once an illustrious princess, her hands and tentacles were stained with the blood of thousands. No one could comprehend how the hooks of madness dragged her down from her life of privilege.

Born Princess Vanessa of Atlantica, the ambitious young royal was one of two children born to the great King Poseidon. She and her brother, Triton, were groomed from birth to rule. Yet only one would ascend that coveted throne. While carefree Triton flits through his training with a cavalier demeanor and beguiling charm, Vanessa’s hunger for her father’s acceptance drives her to push herself to the limits of magic, and combat to become a leader worthy of her people.

When war against the humans ravages their once regal kingdom, political sides are chosen. Factions from the seven seas challenge the existing leadership, pitting Vanessa against her brother in a vicious battle for the crown. Traitors are exposed, dark family secrets revealed, and a once strong sibling bond is strained to its breaking point.

Only when the ink black waters from the ultimate betrayal rescind, will the truth be known of how the villainous sea witch rose with one name on her vengeful lips--Triton.

My Thoughts: That Poor Unfortunate Soul!
Honestly, this was my first Stacey Rourke novel, I own at least 5 of her novels, but this is the first I've actually read. That being said I think I'm hooked, yes, purposely did a fishy pun. This is a story for any little mermaid fan, as you get to know what made Ursela became the sea witch.
Being firstborn seemed to mean nothing to her father King Poseidon, because he only had enough attention for his son prince Triton. So to prover worthiness to take the throne princess Vanessa did everything she could to be perfect. But destiny would lead her on a far different path. At their time of ascension after the kings passing, the heirs are put to the test one shall retain the shell of alchemy, while the other will receive the trident and throne. Vanessa had always had a touch of magic within her but once selecting the Alchemist's She'll her life is forever changed. When war breaks and sides are drawn, Vanessa hopes to use her magic for good, but when allies turn traitor and she is left looking the villain drastic measures are taken. It's then that Vanessa takes on a new name and life as she lives in banishment from the world she had once sought to rule and save.
Overall, good read and my heart hurts for the so called "villain". To be turned on and hurt but the people you loved and called family is the absolute worst thing, so it's no wonder how you could see Vanessa the dutiful princess turn vengeful sea witch Ursela. I'm actually quite stunned at how controlled Ursela/Vanessa stayed even after her public punishment, because I'd have blasted them all with my magical powers, but then again I am only human. The only person I couldn't stand was definitely Triton, but probably because he was annoying little brother who despite being king needed his sister to take the blame and help him out. So if you like backstory's on your favorite childhood villain's then you'll enjoy this novel about Ursela.
