Book Synopsis:

Rachel Myers never meant to stay in Payton. Her eyes were set on bigger things than waitressing at Clark’s Bar. She wants to perform on a stage of her own with bright lights, fame, and fortune. But something got in the way—Joshua Clark. He’s a good man who loves her, a solid rock she can depend on. She wants that to be enough, but it hasn’t quelled her yearning for the big city.

Josh knows Rachel wants more out of life and might leave one day. Yet so far, she hasn’t gone anywhere. Deep down, he believes his love is enough to keep her...or at least he hopes so. Until one night, a city boy from Hollywood promises Rachel a record deal and destroys everything.

Jumping at a chance she never thought she’d have, Rachel leaves Payton. And Josh. But the sparkle of Los Angeles is not all it’s cracked up to be, and Rachel quickly figures out that some sacrifices are not worth the risk. Is she too late? Will Josh forgive her, or has her desire for fame ruined the best thing she’s ever had?

Sometimes you have to say goodbye before you can say forever.
My Thoughts: "Home Is Wherever I'm With You."
This is the fourth installment of the songbird series and the books only continue to rise emotionally leaving you feeling good long after you've finished reading. New characters are introduced opening up the stage for more novels in the making, but don't worry some of the past favorites make an appearance. Home is an emotional read that pulls you from beginning to difficult middle to the sweet beautiful end. Oh and if you're not into country music, like me, no worries Melissa Pearl does a fantastic job scoring this book with music illustrating the moment, so definitely que up the playlist provided when you read the novel you'll be glad you did.
Having promised her mama that she would make something of herself by not wasting her talent, Rachel Myers is itching to get out of small town, Payton. Rachel knows that after the hard time she had getting to Clark's Bar she should be happy with her waitressing job, warm bed, and occasional performing opportunity on the bars small stage. Plus on top of it all she has the boyfriend of her dreams the "Grizz" Joshua Clark himself. But she's restless feeling like she should be in a place bigger than Payton and fears her time of stardom will never come. Until a man from L.A. comes into the bar and offers to take her on as a client offering big promises if Rachel will return to L.A. with him. Joshua is immediately against it but Rachel's sees it as her big break. The only thing is could the L.A. opportunity break Joshua and Rachel apart? Is Rachel's dream really worth throwing away her home and love?
Overall, fantastic emotions, characters, plot, music I just loved it! The struggle Rachel faces of choosing which dream to pursue is something we might have all faced making her extremely relatable. When your dream is something you'd give anything for is it really worth it? Rachel found out in the worst way that it's not. Watching Rachel figure out her real dream was hard, but beautiful in the end and makes you think about about you're reaching for and why. Melissa Pearl did such a great job capture the despair Rachel felt as she got further away from home, that when she finally found freedom a reader can feel that fresh breathe too that she is free and can go home at last. So if you are looking for a book that will teach you dreams are worth working for but not worth selling you soul for and to not put things above those you love, then this book is for you.

My Thoughts: Save Your Time And Money On Something Elsewhere!

The story had great intentions aiming to bring light to the issue of sex trafficking, but it was overshadowed and barely mentioned when another issue in the book took more precedence making the book lack as a whole story. Character development was surface for how deeply emotional the issues were in the story and I never felt connected to any character or really cared too much for how the story would all end. In fact the suspense of "will such and such happen?" never gets resolved and leads you to an epilogue that leaves you going "Umm, okay. Guess there's another book then."
Captain Eric Hamilton of the USS Larson finds a woman adrift on a dingy in the middle of the Northern Arabian Gulf. The woman is badly beaten and dehydrated, but most shockingly she is also very pregnant. After getting her bandaged up and able to talk he asks how she ended up where they found her and who she is, she informs Eric that her name is Abigail Carlton. Abby tells Eric that she was from Seattle before she had chosen to travel in Europe where she was abducted from a nightclub in Paris 332 days ago where she was then sold to an Arab man named, Seyed Hossein. Eric is old school in thinking about woman having their place in the world and doesn't believe they should be in the Navy, but he wholeheartedly believe men who do what was done to Abby are scum of the earth. The two bond and form a connection, making Eric promise to keep Abby and her baby safe even from the CIA if need be. However, there is also trouble on board for Eric concerning his views on woman as insubordination abounds and crewman take sides on issues concerning an allegation of sexual harassment, which if found guilty could render Eric powerless leaving all of them open to attack.
Overall, there could have been something to this book and I kept waiting for the plot to even out, but it just dragged on and got messier without complete resolution. Picking one issue to flush out would have been easier allowing the other to be the series arc plot line, but instead both were installed in this story and it made the book jumbled. Eric was repeatedly noted as chauvinistic and old school which was okay except when the author threw in romance trying to make him loving and caring too. Didn't match up. Especially since the woman he was vying for literally just got away from a guy who controlled every aspect of her existence and now she gets with a man who is just as controlling but does it out of love?! No woman out of sex trafficking would have been all for romance in less than a week, too unbelievable, especially for them having sex twice in the book, like come on *Eye roll. Oh and there was a whole accusation of sexual harassment case, there was a line in the book that literally had a character question the claims based on the captain being hot and the woman being a plain Jane so there was no way he'd have gone for her. Like WTH?!!! Like no, I can't even discuss that. So if you want to waste time on a book that doesn't seem to want to want in the first book and has too many main issues to end properly while having main character be a total jerk who romances a woman straight from slavery, then be my guest at reading this, but I will not be reading more in this series or this book ever again.

Book Synopsis:

Two names that didn't belong to us. Two shoes that did.

Intense and introspective, seventeen-year-old Hawthorne Macy knows all about being abandoned. She's felt the stark pain of being left behind by the people who are supposed to love her the most; her parents. Raised by her caring uncle on an old plantation, Hawthorne lives her life on the fringes of her small Southern town.

Until she meets his shoe.

Senior year, last period English class, and a pair of silent tennis shoes resting next to hers in the back of the room throws Hawthorne into a world she'd learned to stay outside of.

His name is Max Vincent, but in her mind, he’s Heathcliff. The handsome eighteen-year-old boy behind the shoes will pull Hawthorne into a passionate and unforgettable adventure of self-discovery during a time when love seems impossible.

Shoes can tell a lot about a person. The journey they take you on can tell a lot about how they'll hold up.

"Books carried me through my childhood. They carried me through cold nights and hot days, through hunger and fear. I grew up under the poverty level, and my family spent a lot of time telling each other stories to pass the time. I was awkward, clumsy, and different. I was quiet and bookish. I had the same problems as all teenagers. I often felt inadequate and insecure. I was bullied quite frequently. Words carried me. They gave me wings and helped me fly. They brought me through grief and despair, through the death of both of my parents and through the journey that came afterward. With time came knowledge and acceptance, and my love for words grew. Stories mean different things to different people. I tell stories because, through them, I grow as a person and as a writer. Remember, life isn't always easy. There are never guarantees, and we are all different for a reason. Embrace your awkward. Be unique. Change your fairytale. Because what makes you different makes you beautiful."

"Spotlight Saturday": Just Breathe Trilogy by Kendall Grey

Genre: Paranormal, Romance, Urban Fantasy.

"Inhale" (Book 1)- Click Here
"Exhale" (Book 2)- Click Here
"Just Breathe" (Book 3)- Click Here

by Kendall Grey
Penned Series: Just Breathe Trilogy, Hard Rock Harlots Series and Ohana Series.

**Note:Books contain graphic language, sex, and some violence. Definitely not suitable for readers under the age of 18.**

My Thoughts: Inhale, Exhale Now Breathe, Cause This Series Is Bomb!

Now I'm usually very cautious and usually avoid books containing, shall we say more mature romance scenes, but the story is so fantastical and the characters are all just so likable I can totally live with the explicit sex. Why? Because the story is just that great! Set in a unique version of our reality the characters fight to keep our world alive and each other safe all while learning to love. Based in more fantasy and fiction than realism Kendall Grey offers a dream world to ignites her readers imagination as good fights evil.
Readers are introduced to one of the protagonists, Dr. Zoe Morgan, a whale biologist who is finally leaving her job under her supervisor and lover to become her own boss. Zoe will now be the new director in tagging the migrating whales project located in Harvey Bay, Australia. Everything seems to be finally going Zoey's way, except now she is suddenly hearing the whales talk to her, in her head and has no idea why. Then of course there is a very hot man appearing in her dreams at night rescuing her from fiery nightmares. Though not too long into the series, Zoey finds out that her "dream" man turns out to be the too sexy for himself rock star, Gavin Cassidy. Gavin is a rockstar by trade, but is a Dreaming Australia Sentinel by birth. Sworn to protect Wyldlings, which are dreaming humans, Gavin is pulled to Zoey after being inactive since losing his last partner. Being back in the Dreaming, Gavin realizes he must save Zoey from furious Fyre Elements and work with her to restore balance amongst the Elementals: Earth, Water, Fyre, Aer.
Overall, I love this series! Gavin and Zoey are meant to be and it's soooo obvious that you just want to slap them when they do stupid drama stuff. Of course that's also what makes this series great by having all the heartache and emotional reunions. Zoey is feisty and isn't afraid to let Gavin have it. Gavin is just yum, the man can sing and save lives, winner! Winner! The fights that occur in this series are great too, because you have Fyre fighting Aer or Earth trying to destroy evil Fyre, it's all just Bam! Bam! Slam! Go Team Gavin and Sentinels! So if you're up for a series about humans sleeping and being in danger needing to be saved by dream watchers before the dreamland and the real world are lost to death and destruction, all while a hot romance is forming in the not so subtle background. Then this series is great to get into.

Now be forewarned listed below are each books descriptions none are too revealing BUT still read at your own risk. I dare ya!

Strangers in reality, inseparable in dreams …

After years of suffocating under her boss’s scrutiny, whale biologist Zoe Morgan finally lands a job as director of a tagging project in Hervey Bay, Australia. Success Down Under all but guarantees her the promotion of a lifetime, and Zoe won’t let anything—or anyone—stand in her way. Not the whale voices she suddenly hears in her head, not the ex who won’t take no for an answer, and especially not the gorgeous figment of her imagination who keeps saving her from the fiery hell of her dreams.

Gavin Cassidy hasn’t been called to help a human Wyldling in over a year, which is fine by him. Still blaming himself for the death of his partner, he keeps the guilt at bay by indulging in every excess his rock star persona affords. That is, until he’s summoned to protect Zoe from hungry Fyre Elementals and learns his new charge is the key to restoring order in the dying Dreaming. He never expects to fall for the feisty Dr. Morgan … nor does he realize he may have to sacrifice the woman he loves to save an entire country.
