My Thoughts: Girl BFFs, Hiking Weekend with the Boys and Life Threatening Trouble, What's Not to Love?

      If you are a female, you know having a Best Friend is a must, having multiple BFFs is a plus, but one in life is a girl definite must in life. Mica and Lexy are the coolest Best Friend Y.A. book duo I've read not only this year but ever. And I'm happy to say this book is ripe with reasons why the book world needs more BFF girl centered series.

      Mica and Lexy are the heroines of this book. Lexy and Mica, Mica and Lexy, you don't get one without the other. The pair have been best friends since they were 8 years old and have been stuck to each other's sides ever since. Mica is the outgoing-act first maybe think later kind of friend, while Lexy is the more reserved thinker and planner of the two, but she is totally willing to do something crazy if Mica makes it sound worthwhile.

     Mica and Lexy set out tramping, aka hiking, in the New Zealand, Bush, when their group stumbles upon drug fields. And that's when their plans go out the door and all hell breaks loose. Mica was supposed to be flirting up a storm with Eli, Lexy's older, who seems possibly indifferent to Mica, but she's unsure and wanted to see what this trip could reveal. Meanwhile, Lexy would be doing her best to solidify her quasi relationship with Tom, the British foreign exchange student living with Mica's family. However, Mica, Lexy, Tom, and Eli end up far away from the perfect weekend outing. Instead the four are forced to run to survive, split up, take down drug thugs, brave almost drowning and have near death experiences more than once. Yep, not a typical hike, but that's a Mica and Lexy trip.

     Overall, I just love this updated version the plot flows smoother, the characters are better and the situations feel a bit more thrilling. Truly, I don't see how a reader can't help seeing themselves, or their friends, in a bit of Mica or Lexy. Their friendly banter is exactly how any best friends would converse at that wonderful high school age. Knowing the authors themselves are best friends makes it no wonder they got the girls conversations down pat. So if you are looking to read a Y.A. book about teenager best friends just trying to have a great weekend to hook the men of the dreams, but find themselves being hunted by drug dealers instead, and have to run for their lives. Then this will be a good read for you.

"Wednesday's, Wonderings & Wanderings": To Road Trip or Not to Road Trip? That is a question.

I say HECK YES! Long live the road trip. It may be a tough way to travel and very long in comparison to a quick flight that takes you from here to there in hours, instead of days like a car ride, but I will argue it is one of the best ways to take a family vacation and see the sights. So many today choose to forgo the road trip experience for many reasons, and the issue of time isn't the only damper on the road trip option. No, there is the problem with having a sturdy and roomy car to travel in, then there is the mercurial gas prices to contend with (though they seems to be low right now), then of course time availability as road trips can be long, and of course last, but not least, there is the fact that you are literally confined with your family for hours with no escape, which may be THE reason, in and of itself, as to why most choose not to take road trips.

First issue the whole roomy and sturdy car issue, not an issue. Rent a van, rent an SUV, rent an RV, if you're brave enough, the point is there are options out there if your car wouldn't handle a long trip. Second issue the whole mercurial gas prices, well it all depends on where you live and where you are heading. Because living in L.A. our prices are upped just because of the economic supply and demand issue, however when we travel out of the state, BAM! prices drop rather drastically. So I can't promise the gas will be cheap or stay cheap wherever you go, but I can say you'll just have account for the price as an added expense for the trip. Third issue time availability, road trips take time and should take time. Meaning you shouldn't rush to all your places, by all means make sure you plan a schedule, but feel free to change it up if need be, take detours or an extra hour here or there. You'll most likely never make it back to those places you're driving to and should take your time at each place enjoying it and of course documenting the whole experience.

Last but definitely not the least issue is the fact you are traveling for days in a small area with your family continuously. Now some may say 'Well, that doesn't sound like such a bad thing?', while others go 'Oh, Heck No!' Truly, it really all depends on your family dynamic AND how much you want to bond. Because if there is one thing a road trip pushes you to do, it's bond. My family has gone on about 10 road trips together, since I was kid up until about a week ago, yep we still road trip together, this last one was a week long and we did 5 states, phew it was long, but so fun. Now, living in L.A. I only count trips that take more than 3 hours as a road trip. I say that disclaimer, because my friend from Washington, who came down here for college, would always think an hour was a long drive. She came from a small lake town, so I had to remind her that in L.A we are used to driving everywhere and that we always hit traffic, sooo every fun destination takes about a 30-45 min drive.  

Well all that to say, each road trip we've taken as a family has only made us closer and given us more memories. Sure we've done other trips that used planes as our mode of transportation, but I must say the road trips by far seem to leave the biggest impressions. Sure we have moments of getting surly with each other, due to being tired or being hungry, but once we see a sunset over beautiful landscape or someone cracks a joke, it all just becomes another moment in our journey. And that's the thing about a road trip, it's not just a normal vacation it's truly a journey, your family is literally traveling together to get from Point A to Point Z, but you have all those other places in between to stop and smell the rose at first. Plus traveling out and really seeing how other places are in the flesh is way more impressionable on a person and can expand anyone views on culture, people, and the world they live in rather than just flying over them in a plane. So if you haven't taken a road trip I highly suggest you take one, maybe start out small taking a day trip to a place you haven't seen before in your own area and then the next time venture further from there for a weekend and so on. Just be sure you pack plenty of snacks, games, movies, maybe a book (if you don't get car sick when reading), couple of fun questions to keep everyone talking, and of course, make an awesome playlist, because I swear music makes any long drive a great drive.

My Thoughts: Holy Hackers, Espionage and Freakin Bubonic Plague! 

      This book freakin rocked from beginning to end! To say this book was a page turner or should I say ebook swiping story filled with, "OMG how are they going to survive this mess now?!" kind of a events somehow feels like an understatement. Seriously, had I known what awaited me within this book, I'd have read this story waaaay sooner. Because wow, the story was gripping with suspense and mystery, yet funny but serious too with a hint of romance woven through. The story literally had it all and that made it one of the best books I've read in while.

      The Robin Hood Hacker, listed as one of the top ten in the FBI's most wanted. None have seen her as she continues to evade the Feds, taking money from large corporations, leaving behind only her famous tag line 'Better Luck Next Time!' However, there is one weakness the great Robin Hood hacker named Ronnie has, his name is Special FBI Agent Zach Hunt, who is tasked with finding her and bringing her in, if he can find her that is. Meanwhile, the world is about to be shaken by a sinister plot that was started centuries prior, by a secret society called the Hidden Hand. The plague is unleashed as a means of cleansing the earth on behalf of God's will and all of mankind is at risk. The Hacker world and the real world collide when Ronnie is sent the angelic code which the Hidden Hand uses to communicate. Ronnie goes from most wanted to most needed as humanities time dwindles down to relying on Ronnie and her crews skills being able to find a cure.

      Overall, amazing book! Carolyn McCray definitely has a new fan right here. The story was a continuous swipe after swipe of my ebook, because I just HAD to know if Ronnie was going to pull it off with the help of Quirk, his pilot, Zach and the other notable characters. Seriously this book felt like World War Z meets Mission Impossible with a little RomCom here and there added to lighten the dire mood. Though the book is long don't be deterred by it's length, because the story is worth the time and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

My Thoughts: Born to be Bought, Read, and Enjoyed!

BUY THIS SERIES!! Especially when it's Tara Brown . . I mean A.E. Watson books, seriously the trilogy is worth the price and time. This is an Amazing series that I personally took waaaay too long to read. I bought the series on a whim just cause they were written by Tara Brown and kept putting them off and pushing the series further down my TBR list of books. BUT then one day I was like hmm why not? I love this author's other books, why wouldn't I like this? Plus everyone raves about this series, while I just go, Born what?! So I read them and WOW!! I mean WOW!! I completely get what all the fuss is about, this series is just heart pounding, what will happen next I gotta read this till it's over or read this till the end even if I get a book hangover but I don't care cause it's just THAT good!!! *deep breathe and lets it out.

Now if you still aren't convinced by my fangirl enthusiasm as to why you should buy this book series. Let me bring you a more serious tone then. This series begins with a girl named Emma and her best-friend, neigh, her companion, Leo, who is a wolf. These two are all each other have in a world destroyed by a disease. Readers follow Emma on her journey as she comes into contact with other humans and you see into the world she lives in. She was raised by her father to be a survivalist and it is his training, and her own nature, that gives her the ability to survive and endure the plagued world.

Emma is a survivalist to her core, which is great when the human race is threatened by a zombie like disease. In being on her own she learned to survive and depend on no one else, that is until a sister and brother come to her for help, and Emma slowly decides to let them into her life that was once one of solitude. It's through Emma's experiences of learning to accept help and love from the people she comes into contact with throughout the books, that she learns what it means to be truly human and what a family is. Emma becomes a strong leader who with the help of fellow survivors eventually helps lead some through this strange Dystopian world to make a new world.

Overall, this series is a great YA series that is filled with action, suspense, love, family, and will keep readers thrilled and involved till the end. A.E. Watson is amazing at capturing readers interest, not just in the story-line but in the character's emotions too. Readers will love the characters, hate some, cry over others (warning keep tissues on stand-by) and ultimately hope for their happily ever after, even if the world is a disaster. I should also note that as of now Tara, due to popular demand has an alternate ending book out for those that couldn't accept the original ending. Personally, I for one have never read said alternate ending, because I believe the original ending to be the truth of the books and don't want to tarnish my love for the ways things turned out. My Thoughts: Should Be Titled "Swiftly and Unknowingly Bonded For Life"

     Honestly, I wanted to stop reading after the couple's first sex scene, but I persevered through the book to give the author a chance before I passed final judgement. The story had an interesting idea, but there was just a few too many issues I had with the book for me to say I liked it or would ever read the next book.

     Rilo An, Pandoran, is shown to be wishing for a female life mate. All females on his home planet are extinct, so he had to save and buy a wish to have a chance at happiness, which to him is a life mate and children. He has no idea what awaits him on earth but takes the risk, becoming the earthling Chris West. Chris is sent to Caitlyn Davis and immediately sets about making her his life mate. **TINY SPOILER HERE** Basically the bond is made through sex and he attracts his mate by sending off hormones which make Caitlyn immediately horny and they consummate their bond in the backseat of her van. The rest of the story is about Chris acclimating to earth life and Caitlyn adjusting to a new man in her life. The couple obviously has issues to work through and a few bumps in the story happen.

      Overall, Not too impressed. I enjoyed the dialogue and their relationship, but the sex was weird and really off putting from the beginning. I really dislike books with sex right off the bat, since you don't even know the characters first and then all of sudden their doing this intimate thing. I just couldn't stand the whole sex=bond thing for the alien species. Especially, since as Caitlyn glossed over the issue, but as her BFF so sagely put it, their "bonding" was like rape, since Caitlyn barely knew Chris and then all of sudden she was compelled to have sex with him, not asked but practically forced, not cool. Then there was the whole ejaculation thing with Chris that was weird too. The only saving grace of the book was the dialogue, I liked it but everything else was just too weird to take, and the author should seriously think about a rewrite concerning some of the alien stuff, it ruined the story in my opinion.
