My Thoughts: Everyone and Everything Has A History

This is not my first novel or novella written by Michael Cash, so I've come to know his style of writing. That being stated the story does start off slow and a bit confusing but it all has a "Major" point. Infusing a life lesson into supernatural situation lends to a Twilight Zone kind of storyline.
Awakening with the mother of all hangover, Amanda Greene finds herself in her dorm room but not. Everything looks similar but different, her room mate is a stranger and she can't recall much from the night before. All Amanda can remember is that she had a bad fight with her boyfriend, Patrick, and that she drank waaay too much. Amanda finds herself heading to her first class and realizes its History 101, a class she purposeful did not signup for. Feeling stalked by a ominous shadow, she shakes off the sensation and heads to class. There in class she finds no one she knows and yet some seem odd familiar. It's there in the lecture Amanda learns her reality is not what it seems and history is more than a subject but something to learn from.
Overall, loved it. I'm a history nerd, so anything with history in it I tend to gravitate towards. This novella was crafted like a Twilight Zone episode, confusing then teaching with an ending that is okay but just what the story needed. That said I know people so often hate the subject of history and its saddening since everything has a history, heck two seconds ago is history, so to dislike or disregard its importance in everyone's life has always made me worry for our world's future. So I love how well Mr. Cash intertwined history into helping Amanda recall her own history. So if you are looking for a short supernatural read involving a college girl trying to piece together her existence and figure out where she is before its too late, this book is worth a read.

My Goodreads Record:
I know for a fact that I've read waaay more books than just the novels I've pressed "Read" on goodreads.com this past year. But I've got to say it was quite fun and a bit of an ego boost to see I was so may books ahead of my challenge or that I had read so many such and such pages by this many months. I'm definitely doing this way of tracking again this coming year just for fun if not to just know my relative reading numbers per year.

My Thoughts: Short But Great Ghost Story

Centered around a curse born from a time of witch hunts and piety; This shorty is packed with suspense, in depth plot and characters you'll want more of. Definitely not your typical ghost story, but a great addition to the genre.
Told from multiple character perspectives and from different time frames, the present is focused on high schooler, Arielle, who wants nothing more in life than control of her own life. After her parents divorce Arielle has been on a rebellious streak one of which is her relationship with bad boy Chad. Not wanting to have their relationship go too far Arielle starts to regret her decision to go with him out to the Hanging Tree. Though the two may be alone physically there are spirits lingering and they have stories to tell and warnings to impart on the two teens.
Overall, loved this book and for being a short story was wonderfully plotted out. This story could have easily been stretched out to a full length novel, but I enjoyed how to the point the story was. The characters each had their own voice and story that contributed to the whole plot. And the ending was such a great twist that it the story was wrapped up in a wonderful way.

SYNOPSIS
Wes Rockville, a disgraced law enforcement agent, is given one last chance to prove himself and save his career when he's reassigned to a 232 year old secret government organization. The Witches Protection Program.

His first assignment: uncover a billion-dollar cosmetics company’s diabolical plan of using witchcraft for global domination, while protecting its heiress Morgan Pendragon from her aunt’s evil deeds.

Reluctantly paired with veteran witch protector, Alastair Verne, Wes must learn to believe in both witches and himself.

Filled with adventure, suspense and a rousing good time, Michael Phillip Cash creates a tongue-in-cheek alternate reality where witches cast spells and wreak havoc in modern day New York City. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WHAT READERS ARE SAYING ABOUT “WITCHES PROTECTION PROGRAM”
"Badges and broomsticks collide in 'Witches Protection Program', a fast-paced, lighthearted piece of crime fiction with a supernatural twist from screenwriter and novelist Michael Phillip Cash...With its lively characters, quickly moving plot, and amusing dialogue, 'Witches Protection Program' is a great summer choice, ideal for beach or poolside reading, and with elements of romance, action, crime, and fantasy, there's a little something for everyone to enjoy." - Foreword Reviews

"Wes is a fascinating protagonist...The short, action-laden novel speeds past nuances from developing characters' relationships, but Cash does leave room for a couple of surprises. The story's case is more or less wrapped up by the end, with a lingering impression that this could be the first of many to come...Cleverly offbeat, often cheeky, and loads of fun." - Kirkus Reviews

My Thoughts: When Witches Come Out Of The Closet

Looking for a mystical fast paced story featuring a modern world where witches live secretly amongst normals casting spells and influence the humanity. This would be a good book to try. Filled with a quick paced plot and action packed scenes, the reader is shown a world of mystery as witches come out to "play" and some exceptional cops try to help save the day.
Wes Rockville, comes from a family of highly regarded law enforcement agents. So when he fails at a simple assignment, his dad gives him one last chance. Never did Wes imagine his transfer would be to secret 232 year old government organization named The Witches Protection Program. Thinking the program is a joke he is introduced to the good witches by his new partner Alastair Verne, and told their mission is to secretly help and protect them. Wes is quickly thrown into a complex case that leaves them uncovering a plot involving a cosmetic company and the heiress Morgan Pendragon, who is a practicing witch her self and is the linchpin to her aunt's evil scheme.
Overall, I enjoyed the story. At times the plot was too rushed for me and I'd get lost in the moment needing to reread parts. I'm all for fast paced reads but too fast and the story loses its luster. Also the perspectives would change from chapter to chapter but would change even in the middle of the moment at times and would leave me a tad lost as to what character was I following now. However, I found he idea that witches need protectors is new but not unlikely. It's more like the author illustrates they need guardians, because they may have power but power can be over powering. Checks and balances. I'd probably read the sequel if one is released, especially if Morgan and Wes team up. Either way if you're looking for a world where witches live among mere humans practicing magic in two warring factions, one good one bad, with a secret government force trying to protect the good, then this is a book to try out.
