“You lie, angel. I could feel your disappointment this morning. All you have to do is tell me you want me and I’ll stay. I have to hear it.”
“You know I want you, Ryker. I’m sure you could figure that out the other night.”
My whole life, I never needed anyone to protect me, not even my parents. And when it came down to it, they didn’t do a very good job when it came to Kade. I knew I could survive on my own. Admitting I needed or even wanted someone was foreign to me. Saying the words out loud was near impossible.
“You showed me, but haven’t told me. Words can be powerful,” he replied.
He chuckled. “Nope.”
“You sure?”
“Yep.” He continued on with cooking while I stood there, dumbfounded. I didn’t believe him for a second. His back stiffened when I took off my shirt and pants and climbed up on the table.
“I am so hungry,” I announced, waiting for him to turn around. When he did, he completely ignored me and sat down with his plate of food.
He pointed to the counter. “Your plate’s up there.”
“You’re seriously not going to look at me?”
He studied an invisible spot on the table and placed a piece of bacon in his mouth, crunching it slowly. “You’re not ready for that.”
I waited for him to sneak a peek but he didn’t. “Who’s the stubborn one now?”

My Thoughts: Soooo Not A Keeper!
This book seemed promising, ratings were high and the cover looked great. However, the story was too crude for me to get through and the plot was obviously cliche. Now I rarely stop reading a book, but I couldn't continue with the story after the third sex scene occurred in a matter of 11 chapters and the main characters had only met once for less than 5 mins.
Reapers suck the souls from the living and dead; while Keepers save souls from the evil Reapers. Jack Walker is the son to the Empress and Emperor making him heir to the Reaper high leadership. He would like nothing more than to live his life for himself and away from his overbearing mother. Jack is sent to destroy the Chosen One, who is reported to be the youngest child of the Estmond Clan. However, meeting the "One" proves to be strange as he finds himself feeling a connection which can't be good for a Reaper where a Keeper is concerned. Lucy Mae Estmond is just trying to get over he fathers passing, but as a Keeper she has the duty to keep souls safe. Then her father appears to her as a new soul for her to keep with a message letting her know she is the Chosen One. Lucy hasn't a clue what that means or what to do with that info, so she begins to uncover the prophecy. Lucy also finds her life is now in more danger as she is no longer just a Keeper, but the one that could bring an end to the Reapers. Now if she could get rid of this pesky connection and feelings for a certain arrogant Reaper.
Overall, I can only fairly judge the book based on how far I read, but I forced myself to read until the main characters interacted, which took 9 chapters to make that happen. The language was too foul, almost overly so. Now I know people cuss, I'm not naive, but I really hate f-bombs being used so frequently. Then the perspectives changed up randomly to another character, which threw me. I really just kept waiting for the story to get going and instead Jack kept having sex again and again, but not with Lucy. Getting to the end of chapter 11 was hard and I finally decided the book wasn't worth my time. So if you're willing to put up with foul language, a slow paced plot, sex, and probably a cliche Romeo and Juliet Type Plot-line, Then you could try this book, but I could not finish it and have deleted it.

My Thoughts: Not A Stud, More Like A Dud!
The book synopsis lured me into reading this book and for the first couple of chapters I wanted to like the story, BUT it turned into a book I just had to stop reading because I felt like I was wasting my time. When the main character is slowly becoming a jerk and you start thinking, just a bit, what goes around comes around, I mean really?! Who is the author making you cheer on?
Justin Slade is the definition of nerd. He is chubby, slow, and quiet keeping to his dungeons and dragons outcast friends. It's not until he sticks up to a jock forcing himself on the girl of Justin's dreams that shakes up his life. Justin survives the confrontation but slowly things unravel in his life: his parents split up, he alienates himself from what friends he has, he begins having a strange affect on woman, and he is being chased by something. Justin then begins to transform from nerd to stud becoming super strong and fast. His world opens up into a world of supernatural beings that makes more complications in his life especially when he's just trying to stay alive.
Overall, honestly couldn't finish the book after reading 13 chapters. The story was focused on a male character who was meant to be misunderstood, but he came off as a jerk and I couldn't see him as much of a hero worth reading about. His home life fell apart and no one explained anything, letting the story drag on and on with no hope in sight. The book was down right depressing for so long, but I tried to like it even hoping it'd pick up, but the writing style matched with the plot rhythm made the story dreary. Justin never impressed me as a lead character and as a protagonist I couldn't tell what he was really about other than himself, which wasn't endearing. So if you can put up with the depressing spiral the main character goes through before he gets into his new self to hopefully become a better man, than more power to you because I will not be finishing this book.
Two Reviews in One Day
Sadly I struck out on my picks for my "Y.A or N.A. Tuesday" book of the week. My first choice turned out to be a dud and then my second was about the same, actually worst. So I decided to write up reviews on both and post them in the name of reviewer honesty AND my blog mission statement.
I just feel so bummed because it is truly rare I pick two books in a row back to back that don't work out. BUT there is a first for everything and this week was my first to have read two books that I couldn't endorse let alone even finish.
Oh well, I have a lot more books in my elibrary and there is a ton of books coming out to look forward to as well. I guess they all can't be my cup of tea, or winners. That's part of the fun in looking for a new read, you can try out a new genre or author to expand your literary taste. Though in my case these two books did not sate my reading hunger at all. In the end all I can say to a book being a free read is . . .

My Thoughts: Amazing Beginning to A New Series!
This book truly amazed me when I first read it and when I re-read it. I was a little skeptically going into reading this book based on the product description, because a lot of YA books either really impress me or just flop. However, this book impressed the heck out of me leaving me stunned by how much I truly enjoyed the story and I'm looking forward to the whole series. My biggest love for the book is that this author introduces a new world of mythology and culture from Korea. Now I read and follow a very popular YA series that pulls from Greek and Roman mythology (won't name names since I'm reviewing this book not those books here), and though the two seemed similar they are different in so many aspects. In fact they can't be compared at all really since the only thing they really have in common is the impact they will have on their readers in educating them on other cultures, people, history, and mythology, which I think are great topics any age should read about not just kids or teens.The imagery the author provided in the book made the scenes in the story, let alone the action scenes, read so life like. The author you can tell clearly loves Korea and definitely studied up on tae kwon do if not actually knows some, or maybe just watched a lot a fighting movies, either way the fighting scenes were really engaging without being to unbelievable and farfetched (its fiction but not fantasy). The flow of the plot was wonderfully crafted, the story made sense and I who normally pick out how each scene will end was still left wondering how the ending would play out, making me happily surprised since not many books are original but this story was definitely one of a kind. The use of the Korean langue did make it hard to read the book at first, but after a while I got used to it and there is a glossary in the back that helps too. (Unless you're a nerd like me and feel inclined to look up everything so you not only have a definition but a visual picture to understand it too.)
Also I should note the author does a great job is discussing or explaining certain terms without actually breaking from the story. Introducing a new language to a readership who won't be familiar to the language is tricky no matter if the language is foreign or made up. Languages are just hard to write with, so huge applause for Farley writing this book with actual Korean words being used and applied in a wonderful way.
Now the characters in this book were very likeable and relatable on some levels. I mean for example the main character Jae Hwa lost her mom, moved across the ocean to a new country, new school, plays a sport (grant it the sport is tae kwon do), has workaholic Father who barely notices she is there or listens to her, hard to please grandparent, boy troubles, crazy cool best friend she has to try and socialize with, heavy school work/pressure to succeed in life, and then there's the 1000 year issue of the curse she has to fight against or she'll be taken just like every other first born daughter before her by Haemosu, the villain of the story. Now the last issue is all Jae Hwa's but the other situations can be picked up on by readers as relatable on some level, especially if Amazon is posting this book as 7-10th grade reading. Two notable highlights for this book in the relationship department are between Jae Hwa & Marc and the relationship between Jae Hwa and Michelle. The relationship between Jae Hwa and Marc is sweet and grows in a healthy way no love triangles here and not too much drama. So happy a YA book is out with a good main character relationship, some of the recent popular YA book series seem to involve love triangles or unhealthy drama filled relationships that make me more upset then happy with their relationships. Luckily this book kept the relationship in its place as a subplot so it develops but doesn't overwhelm the story keeping the book in a good action packed balance. Then there's the relationship between Jae Hwa and Michelle it's a friendship that must be mentioned because I think too often writers leave out that girls need a best friend not just their boyfriend and Michelle is that friend for Jae Hwa. Specifically since Jae Hwa just wants to seek some sort of a normal existence when her world opens up into more crazy mystically reality and Michelle tethers her to that chance of a sense of normal.
Overall, I sincerely loved and enjoyed the story and definitely recommend this book. In fact I had started out picking this book in hopes that this would be a new series to fill a void another book series is leaving, since it's ending soon, and I can honestly say this series has met that book series void. Each chapter kept me more and more enthralled and rooting for Jae Hwa to figure a way out of her predicament and get her happy ending, all the while I was learning new facts about Korea, it's culture, people, past, and mythology. I mean I now know what a YO is or a KOMO or HARABOJI words that refer to bed, aunt (from dad's side) and grandpa they are stuck in my head just from reading this book. So was the book thrilling and exciting? Yes and was it educational too, Yes but fascinating as well, so I definitely recommend getting into this series.
